Caillou

Not that I'm proud that Quinn watches TV, but the facts are that the one-eyed-babysitter sure does come in handy during certain situations. His all time favorite is Caillou. (pronounced Kai-you) It's a cute show about a 4 year old boy who is VERY curious and adorable. He lives with two very attentive parents, and his little sister. Caillou gets in to all kinds of adventures and fun. The show is completely non violent, and has a non-frenetic, thoughtful pace to it. (as opposed to Sesame Street and other cartoons I've seen) It has a lot of focus on relationships with others, emotions, and doesn't try to tackle to much in one episode. We TIVO every single episode, and I've also bought Caillou DVD's on ebay. The part I like the most about this show is that there is a narrator who gently describes how Caillou is feeling throughout the show, i.e, "Caillou is feeling very frightened of the thunder right now and he decided to get out of bed to find his mommy" or "Caillou is feeling angry and sad all at the same time, and he threw sand at his friend after he took his bucket." or "Caillou was feeling very frustrated after his Daddy told him he would not be going to visit the park today" or "Caillou felt so happy when it was finally his turn to sit in the fireengine. He had waited a long time for his turn!"....and so on. I have never seen a show which so completely understand the toddler psyche.

Of course this was one of Quinn's favorite episodes, as it had to do with the firefighters coming to help get the cat down from the tree..... we had to purchase this one naturally!

Hi Quinn--I can't wait to watch your favorite TV program with you. Your mom says she loves it because it's all about feelings. And your mom is a psychologist, so she should know! And I also loved seeing all the photos of you playing with your good friends. Looks like you have so many wonderful friends you might not have a lot of time left for TV.--With a lot of love, Iris

Pam, I think you have found a winner program for tots. I wish Caillou had existed when our kids were growing up.

Love, Nan
