Quinn goes to High School
Maya recently had a Spanish assignment at school in which she had to speak for 2-3 minutes straight in Spanish (with no notes) about a "show-n-tell" object. She chose Quinn.
So I reluctantly got Quinn up early, quickly got him dressed, and drove down to Maya's school for her first period class, Spanish 3 Honors, starting at 8am.
On the way, I told Quinn, "We're going to Maya's school!" When we got there, he said, "Where are the kids?"
I think he thought there would be little kids running around.
Anyway, he was VERY well behaved during Maya's speech about him. He sat still like a statue on the table, kind of like he was in shock. I understood very little of what Maya said, but she told me that she talked all about his personality, his love of tractors and Curious George, how he wears Crocs, and many other details about his life. She even talked about something he had done the week before that was funny. He had awoken from a deep sleep early in the morning, and we heard him on the baby monitor say very clearly: "Daddy don't eat my donut."
And then he promptly fell back asleep for another hour. The class laughed.
What impressed me most about this experience was watching Maya speak completely fluently in another language. I had never before heard her speak for 2 minutes straight, and it was so impressive. To see your child do something so well that you yourself cannot do, nor had anything to do with.....well, WOW.
Maya and Quinn at Maya's locker before 1st period class.

Maya gives her presentation, while Q sits on the table next to her. The bag is filled with Quinn's favorite things. Maya's teacher is in the green shirt, far right!

Like Quinn, I was also wondering where the kids are. I guess they have grown up! Congratulations to Maya on a great performance that got laughs from the audience and kept Quinn spellbound. I was also glad to hear that Mike doesn't take candy from a child--only doughnuts. He has his priorities straight!
Hooray to Maya for choosing the best subject ever for her Spanish "show and tell!" I would have loved to be a mouse in the corner. Too bad there is not a sound track to go with the pictures -- I'd give anything to hear Maya's presentation. Quinn certainly was on his best behavior, and Pam, thanks for being the photo person.
Love, Nan
What great pictures (as usual, Pam) and a terrific story. So now that Maya is so fluent in Spanish, I think a family trip to visit the cousins in Barcelona is definitely in order. Maya can do all the translating. Elayne
